Spring & 2/3rds of Summer

Not a lot to report since my last update in March.

I didn't fish at all in the traditional closed season.

Prolonged periods of warm, dry weather and painfully low river levels have seriously dampened my enthusiasm for running water sport. So far (and it's nearly September) my river hours amount to less than 4, which is more than the number of fish caught (zero).

Just two very short sessions in crazy temperatures, albeit both at last knockings in late June in consecutive weeks. Nothing doing. Expectations were low, as was the river (Blythe).

I had a couple of short dabbles on a local estate lake, which yielded a few roach, perch and bream. One in mid July, the other just into August.

Rain is most definitely needed and plenty of it. I have a Wye trip coming up soon, so that's definitely a mood improver and guaranteed to get me fishing again. It's been 7 years since I last fished the Wye, so I'm looking forward to that one.

  1. Good luck on the Wye Sean, even with this bit of rain it's bloody low!!!

That said things should start to happen on the bigger rivers, it's been a slow season but there are some wonderful Barbel coming out off the Wye this last couple of days.
